Velorbis at the East River State Park

We spent a day this weekend enjoying the lovely east river state park. Here's Gregory's Churchill Balloon lounging in the sun with some company.

They didn't kick you out? The few times I have actually been at the park during sun set the State Park employees clear everyone out.

shishi - that's funny and totally absurd... I can't understand why in the world that park closes at all. Everyone knows that encouraging use is the best way to keep an area crime free. AND, it's just a piece of grass by the river - there is no 'park' - and yet it has a fence around it and they close it.

Obviously, the horrible-condo-tower-monsters that are growing like an infestation by the waterfront, must want to keep the waterfront area 'controlled' and empty at night...

The Wall Street/NYU invasion already drove us out of the EV - I wonder how long until Greenpoint/N.Williamsburg becomes unbearable...

I was actually part of a design committee for that park (which still has to be done). I know it closes at sunset b/c it is a state park and not a city park, but as you said makes no sense. Have you looked at the plans for the waterfront? Actually another park is going to be built right next to it, all it time though.

Thanks for reading!

I LOVE the East Side park - it's wonderful. Whenever we're there, I always notice that crowds come into the park just to watch the sunset - and like you said, that's right when they close. It's silly...

Also, I love how everyone rides their bikes to the park - and then they lay around with the bikes next to them. It's quite nice. I haven't seen the plans for the additional development - can you post a link to them?
