New Family Member

This is a quick post to welcome the newest member of our bicycle family. In addition to Gregory's Velorbis Churchill Balloon, Jennifer's Velorbis Ivory Victoria and my Velorbis Vegan Churchill - Jason has adopted this Schwinn from his Swedish friends Håkan and Elke.

Jason is tall, very tall. Håkan is even taller, so this frame turns out to be perfect for him. It's 69cm. You can tell by looking at the geometry that it's huge, check out the distance between the back wheel and the seat post. I've suggested that he raise the handlebars, but we haven't been able to figure out if they can be raised on this model, or if they're just stuck.

Jason has been riding his Schwinn to work every day. Even in the rain.

WOW! I ride tall frames (around 65cm) that is a real monster! The stem is stuck, you should be able to raise it. Get your local bike shop/guru/vintage bike guy to give you a hand. There are several methods, each more destructive than the last.

Hope Jason enjoys it.

What a steed..! Is it maybe a threaded headset..? If it's just stuck, maybe you could apply a little heat to it with a hair-dryer to help loosen things up a bit.

Tell Jason I'm proud he's riding to work even in the rain.

Yes, kudos for the all-weather lifestyle. It's rainy as hell in Baton Rouge in the Summer-- several quenching rides home in the last two weeks. An extra pair of socks and dainty undie-things at the job-place-facility and I'm in business. Getting soaked on the way home, no biggie in 80+ degrees. Just an excuse to tuck into a brandy on the porch and watch it come down.

Beautiful bike. Classic.

I bet he's ready for some fenders?

Loosen the screw, and then bang on it with a rubber mallet or a hammer and a block of wood...in intervals, put the front wheel between your legs and twist the handlebars....you'll get it loose...this is exactly what the bike shop will do anyway!!! No Harry Potter spells here...just some bangin' and twistin'....
