The winner of the bicycle naming poll is Sleipnir
Sleipnir was proposed by Liz.2nd Place goes to Winston suggested by William
3rd place to Almafuerte, suggested by Almafuerte
4th place to Vegan-orbis, suggested by Gregory
I'm very pleased with the result. I really took a liking to Veganorbis the last few days of the poll and was hoping it might come from behind - but I always loved Sleipnir and conclude that the readers have chosen wisely.
Velorbis has generously offered to print up the winning name as a decal for the back plate of my Churchill Classic. I love my bicycle and I'm going to love it even more with it's new name proudly across the name plate! Sleipnir, the Churchill Classic, truly a legend.
From Wikipedia:
"In Norse mythology, Sleipnir is Odin's magical eight-legged steed, and the greatest of all horses. His name means smooth or gliding..." Read more...

Just to preserve the name descriptions - I'm copying them here:

"Unexpected and unpretentious." -Sigrid
The Bronck
"Jonas Bronck, the Dane for whom the Bronx is named." -Zakka
Vegan-orbis
"...every Vegan's favorite Velorbis" -Gregory
Cigarface

Jackie D
"...of course his full given name would be Jack Daniels - and of course he would deserve a proper christening someplace along the Brooklyn waterfront - probably near the QM2 dock to make Winston proud of his namesake" -William
Winston
"...of course 'Winston' is another highly suitable name" -William
Pete
"My bike's name is Jeffrey. And yours totally looks like a "Pete". - Amanda
Almafuerte
"my nickname could be good, it means strong soul in spanish. And it was the nickname of a very important poet here in Argentina." -Josè Marìa

Neat! I'm glad you found a good name for your bike, and that is way cool that Velorbis is going to put it on a decal for you.
Thanks Krista! I'm really excited. I'm tired of calling him, the bike or my bike, etc...
Now I can say Sleipnir!
Which I've been told is pronounced "Slipnear"... if i remember correctly.
Sweet...that is the one I voted for ;-) Hard choice with the options you had. The average person probably has no clue who Sleipnir is LOL but then again just how many ancient history majors are there.
Aaron
Aaron - you're an ancient history major?
Nope Biology...and I work as a field project manager for a national roofing/industrial contractor...go figure. But I love history of all ages. I guess I am one of those strange people that really doesn't have a specialty, just a head full of obscure trivia. LOL
Aaron
congrats to Liz - excellent name choice - was secretly hoping winston wouldn't win so i can now use it for my churchill which arrives monday - after a couple of false starts - coming in second isn't all bad :)
by the way - interesting story aaron - biology major to project manager for roofing company - that's a dog-eat-dog business in nyc from what i know
michael i think you should organize a churchill 'ride-in' :)
I'm amazed that Sleipnir pulled ahead of Winston at the last minute. I was afraid I would lose the money I bet.
William,
Yes! the company I work for is actually based out of Elmira, NY and refuses to take projects in the NYC area (and Canada) Most of my projects are in the deep south. I work for the office based out of Raleigh, NC (not that I am there very often)
Aaron
lol - i was feeling like barrack for a moment - now i feel like hillary - or maybe mike dukakis - so how much did you win?
Aaron - breathe a sigh of relief - it's a nasty business here - your company is right - do you also ride a Churchill?
Bill
william,
I am primarily a Raleigh Rider (own several) I also just bought a Redline R530 (of all things) and am shopping for a Brommie. It most likely will come from Bfold in NYC. I have over a dozen bikes and enjoy all of them ;-)
I have a blog going, but it is slow going.
Aaron
Aaron-
over a dozen bikes??? - wow!!!! - where do you keep them all? - bromptons are great bikes - i also own a raleigh road bike - like it a lot
William,
I live on a small farm, so have plenty of storage room. I suspect if I lived in the city I would be in trouble ;-)
Brompton's are the only small wheel folder that will fit someone of my height. My saddle to pedal dimension is around 35.75"
Aaron
William-
Unfortunately I didn't actually win any money. But if you wanna play Hillary I could loan you some to pay off your debts.
Liz
well Liz - my general comment about you is that you are anything but a gracious winner - no congratulations to the 2nd or 3rd place winners - or other participants - nothing from you - somewhat arrogant, no?
