It finally cooled off here. The weather has been pretty unbearable. It was 96-100 degrees for four days - and now it's back down to the 80s and high 70s. It feels so cool and lovely, which is crazy because it's still HOT.
So last night was the first night that it really cooled off - and we had a quick dinner at the Italian place downstairs and then headed out for a bike ride. Gregory wanted to see this installation by a former member of his department at the Graduate Center.
It's located under the Brooklyn Bridge on the Brooklyn side, and since the bike lanes in Brooklyn are haphazard at worst (and run in only one direction at best) we decided to ride across and take the East side bike path down Manhattan and cross the Brooklyn Bridge.
The weather was perfect - the city lights were sparkling - it was a lovely and perfect night for riding.
Once we got to the Brooklyn bridge, we tried to find our way onto it - believe it or not, there's no sign or path from the East side path to the Bridge - so we got a little lost and wandered around Wall St. and past the World Trade Center site - it was fun to ride around that hood, the mix of billionaires leaving events, tourists and new yorkers was as spicy a melange as ever.
The bridge was fun - I'd actually never ridden across it before - the path is wooden and split between bicycles and pedestrians.
I'm looking forward to riding across it in the day-time, and taking some non cameraphone photos.
