Bike Storage

Over on Hank & Me, Alex mentions bike storage in her loft. I've been thinking about this quite a bit.

We're about to add 3 bicycles to our house. We have a loft in Brooklyn with tons of room, but most of that space is above our heads - the ceilings are really high.

I had ruled out a pully storage system because the Azor Opa exceeds the weight limit of the systems I've found (usually ~22 kg). But the option of the Velorbis brings that back into play as it's 19.6 kg.

So, not long after the 3 bikes arrive, we're probably going to have 4...

How do you suggest we store these? How and where do you store your bikes?

i have a photo if you want to see it ... we have hooks in between our loft beams. with one hook centered between each beam, the wheels fit nicely. the bottom bracket is then right on top of the beam. we can then walk under the bicycles. we got our hooks at the container store, but they may be found anywhere ...

IKEA has storage stuff like hooks for bikes and stuff.

Zakkaliciousness - good suggestion! I hadn't even thought to look there...and they are opening a new one in Brooklyn, some day. I'll check it out, I wonder if they even bother offering the bike storage options here. : )

looks like this site has some solutions that can work for a variety of spaces. i'm going to look for myself. living in SF, we also have very high ceilings, but not very much square footage.

Calitexan: Thanks for the link! That's a great page! If you run into anything else, post it. And thanks for coming by!
